AUGUSTAS SERAPINAS: Among the new commissions at CAC is a project by Augustas Serapinas, which takes its title ‘Yelena and Vera’ (2020) from the names of two former workers of the Ignalina plant, Yelena and Vera. As some of the plant’s first employees, they were involved in the construction of and where they later took on other roles. Now retired, they spend much of their time knitting and have created knitwear to be worn by the exhibition invigilators. For more information on the exhibition Splitting the Atom, click here

AUGUSTAS SERAPINAS: Augustas site-specific work ‘Standtune for the square‘ (2020) is now on view between 17-20 September 2020. The work is included in The Possible is Monstrous, an exhibition of art in the public space curated by  Samuel Leuenberger, Kunsthalle Basel’s Elena Filipovic, Kunstmuseum’s Daniel Kurjaković, and Kunsthaus Baselland’s Ines Goldbach. Featuring 11 artists, it embraces Basel’s diverse neighborhoods, from the picturesque Münsterplatz to the former freeport in Dreispitz. For more information, click here

AUGUSTAS SERAPINAS: Augustas Serapinas is included in the and suddenly it all blossoms: The 2nd Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, curated by Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel. Initially planned to open on 16 May 2020 with a five-month duration, the project will now transform into a feature movie and the exhibition will become its film set taking place from 20 August to 13 September 2020.

AUGUSTAS SERAPINAS: On Saturday, 20 June at 1pm CET, join Augustas Serapinas, whose practice operates outside of the conventional artist studio, for an outdoor studio visit through Vilnius (Lithuania) to discover the hidden spaces and social relationships that inform his work. Serapinas’ practice often takes the shape of site-specific installations, architectural interventions and performative actions, thereby urging us to reconsider conventional understandings of the built landscape. AUGUSTAS SERAPINAS: Join Augustas Serapinas and curator Samuel Leuenberger on Thursday, 11 June at 5:30pm via Zoom. The pair will discuss past and future collaborations. In 2015, they worked together during Serapinas’ solo exhibition Phillip, Lukas & Isidora at SALTS in Birsfelden. Since 2016, Samuel Leuenberger is the lead curator of Art Basel’s Parcours sector, a large inner city sculpture and performance project, for which Augustas Serapinas is invited to produce a new installation.
